Latex Membranes

Latex Membranes provide a tight fit around prepared soil specimens and serve as a barrier to protect against leakage from chamber fluids into the specimen during testing. They are used with Triaxial Cells or Flexible Wall Permeability Test Cells to create a waterproof barrier around the soil specimen.

Standard Latex Membranes and Chlorinated Latex Membranes are supplied in packages of 12 and are available in sizes ranging from 1.4 to 6.0in (36 to 152mm) with thickness of 0.012in (0.30mm) or 0.025in (0.635mm).

Latex Membranes

Latex Membranes are constructed of pure latex rubber. By creating a barrier around the soil sample, latex membranes allow confining pressures to be applied to the soil sample using water or other permeant solutions while protecting the soil sample from moisture changes.

Gilson’s exclusive Chlorinated Latex Membranes function similarly to latex membranes but are specially designed for triaxial shear and flexible wall permeability tests in unusual environments. The chlorination process results in a hardened but flexible outer membrane surface, which offers less tack, lower friction, and resistance to abrasives and chemicals.
