MS-53 Marshall Compactor utilizes a 4in stationary mold and delivers 55BPM to prepare hot mix asphalt specimens for Marshall stability and flow, specific gravity, and void content testing. Designed with durability and efficiency in mind, these compactors produce accurate and reliable Marshall test specimens and have enhanced safety features for secure operation.
Mechanical compactors with stationary bases are available in 55 or 64 blows per minute (BPM) versions to compact 4in (101.6mm) diameter test specimens using a flat-faced hammer. These fully enclosed and heavy-duty units are powered by a 3/4hp motor that lifts the hammer to the precise height for each blow. Gilson’s exclusive easy clamp mold securing system secures specimens in place, and the programmable electric controller can adjust blows between 1 and 999. Current blow count and BPM are displayed in real time.
The controller automatically stops the hammer when compaction is completed for enhanced efficiency. This allows the mold to be inverted for compaction on the opposite side and ensures the same number of blows is applied, resulting in uniform specimen preparation.
The fully enclosed compactor minimizes operator exposure to moving parts. A safety interlock system prevents the compactor from operating unless the door is properly closed and latched. As an added layer of protection, units also come equipped with an emergency stop (E-stop) button to immediately cut power in the event of an emergency.
Each compactor is supplied with an ASTM-compliant oak pedestal with steel plate, an all-stainless steel hammer assembly, a stationary compaction mold assembly, and Gilson’s easy clamp mold security system. Additional mold and hammer assemblies can be purchased to preheat components for increased efficiency. Compactors operate on 115V, 60Hz power supply. Add an “F” suffix to the model number to specify 230V, 50Hz operation, or an “S” suffix to specify 240V, 60Hz operation.
