Calibrated NIST Glass Beads determine effective sieve openings of ASTM Test Sieves and Electroformed Sieves. The entire sample is placed on clean sieves and shaken in the manner that tests will be performed on test samples. Percent of glass beads retained on each sieve is calculated, and the effective opening of each of the sieves is determined from calibration data on the supplied NIST Certificate. These beads are NOT for determining conformity to specifications.
Issued by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), this Standard Reference Material is a bottle of spherical solid beads made of soda-lime glass for testing sieve opening sizes in the range designations and sizes listed below.
BS-5 No.10 – No.20 NIST Glass Beads 200g, for testing sieve particle sizes ranging from 2450 to 750µm.
BS-20 No.45 – No.140 NIST Glass Beads 70g, for testing sieve particle sizes of 400 to 100µm.
