450,000lbf Automatic Compression Machines for Single Masonry Block are rigid frame units with larger daylight openings to test a single concrete masonry block specimen. These machines have the same automated controller and hydraulic loading system as the Rigid Frame (RF) Series. The highly rigid load frames and enclosed test chamber are suitable for heavy daily testing demands and frequent tests of high-strength samples. This advanced design exceeds the recommendations cited in ACI 363.
A PC-based system uses a variable frequency drive to control the hydraulic pump motor. This only runs the pump at speeds necessary to achieve the desired pressure, reducing heat build-up in the hydraulic system and prolonging service life. The frame’s rigidity decreases the number of explosive sample failures and reduces the effects of minor sample misalignments and inconsistencies within the sample, producing more consistent and repeatable results.
With one button press, the machine performs the complete test, including specimen contact, load application, preload and test load rates, break detection, data collection, and piston return in accordance with ASTM and AASHTO. The operator only needs to position the specimen, initiate the test, and remove the specimen after testing is complete. Minimal human input eliminates variations in load applications and rates, discrepancies in test procedures, and operator error.
Specimens of the same type and dimensions can be tested without repetitive data entry. The advanced drive system precisely regulates the application of force and rate of load using machine feedback. The HMI continuously monitors and displays the status of loading, force, stress, rate of load, and real-time graphing of load vs. time or stress vs. strain. After the test cycle, testing laboratory ID, sample ID, and client information are stored for error-free reporting. The machines have Wi-Fi capability and built-in USB and LAN ports to print, load, or transfer data to a PC.
Electronic sensors send feedback based on programmed inputs and current test demands to the integrated electric motor and hydraulic pump, maintaining required loads and load rates. These machines are significantly quieter and more effective when compared to older designs. Fragment guards are mounted to the front and rear of the compression frame and feature shatter-resistant Lexan® inserts to protect against flying debris and provide a clear view of the testing process.
Block Automatic Compression Machines for Single Masonry Block come ready to test a single 8 or 12in masonry block specimen. Units operate on 110V, 60Hz. Add “F” suffix to the model number for 220V, 50/60Hz operation.
