DSR Silicone Specimen Molds are designed for use with Anton Paar Shear Rheometers and a variety of other Dynamic Shear Rheometers (DSR). These flexible, tear-resistant silicone molds are manufactured by the Asphalt Institute.
Dimensions may vary from the specified sample sizes to ensure proper placement and trimming between the plates of the DSR. Molds are triangular, with each side approximately 2 inches (51 mm) and a thickness of 0.25 inches (6.35 mm).
HMA-356 includes one each of the HMA-356A 18mm Silicone Mold and HMA-356B 8mm Silicone Molds used most often in medium and high temperature asphalt binder testing with DSR.
HMA-356A is an 18mm Silicone Mold, for 25mm plates, and is recommended for use with high-temperature asphalt binders (above 115°F [46°C]) in (DSR) testing.
HMA-356B is an 8mm Silicone Mold, is designed for medium-temperature asphalt binder testing with a DSR, typically in the range of 39°F to 104°F (4°C to 40°C).
HMA-356C is a 4mm Silicone Mold is used for low-temperature testing of asphalt binders with a DSR. While not referenced in ASTM or AASHTO standards, the 4mm mold has been adopted in research to evaluate rheological performance at sub-ambient temperatures.
