Lottman Breaking Heads are used with conventional Marshall Stability Load Frames to determine Indirect Tensile (IDT) or Lottman values of asphalt mixes. Both 4in and 6in Breaking Heads, or test fixtures, can be used to determine tensile strength ratio (TSR) by calculating stress levels between conditioned and unconditioned specimens.

MS-35 model is available for 4in (102mm) specimens.

MS-36 model is available for 6in (152mm) specimens. In addition, the 6in Lottman Breaking Head can be used to perform the Indirect Tensile Cracking Test (IDEAL-CT) in accordance with ASTM D8225.

Each fixture consists of a base with upright guide rods and a top with matching guide sleeves. The upper and lower stainless steel loading strips have concave contact surfaces.
