Profometer® Rebar Diameter and Cover Meters

Profometer® Cover Meters have a long history and an excellent reputation for sensitive detection, precise location, and accurate dimensional measurements of steel reinforcing bars and other metallic embedments in concrete. Pioneering improvements in proven eddy current technology, sophisticated data processing, and cloud-based reporting features have ensured their continued best-in-class performance for concrete subsurface detection and measurement data.

Whether scanning for confirmation of design requirements, structural assessment, or simple detection and location to prevent damage from utility penetrations, the newest generation of the Profometer series offers accuracy, flexibility, and advanced data management.

The Profometer wireless modular detection sensor, featuring superior detection range and accuracy, is the heart of three different versions of the concrete cover meter. Individual rebars can be detected, and concrete cover determined at depths up to 7.3in (185.5mm), with an accuracy of ±0.16in (4.1mm) or better. Bar diameters can be measured at depths up to 2.5in (63.5mm) with an accuracy of ±1mm. The depth of the concrete cover and the diameter of the steel bars affect the detection, measurement limits, and accuracy.

Profometer Basic and Pro models are designed for integration of the sensor with the user’s Apple iPad equipped with iPadOS 14.0 or later via a secure and encrypted Bluetooth connection. The powerful processing capacity, high visual resolution, and secure built-in reporting features make the iPad the ideal platform to view, collect, and report inspection data. With a suitably equipped iPad, visualizations, graphics, and report data can instantly be uploaded to the cloud and shared from any location with a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.

Profometer Cover Meters include the sensor, rechargeable flight-safe NiMH AA batteries for an estimated eight hours of operation, a battery charger, quick-start guide, carrying case and strap, and marking chalk. CT-171R Basic and CT-172R Pro models also include a detachable wheeled cart for the sensor. The unit can operate on conventional alkaline AA batteries or a user-supplied USB-C power bank. Apple iPad models are supplied by the user.

CT-171R Profometer Basic Cover Meter precisely detects reinforcing steel bars, estimates bar diameters, and measures the depth of concrete cover. The sensor also locates metallic embedments and wires. Visualizations, maps, and statistics for cover depth, bar locations, and diameters are rendered on the user’s iPad with millimeter accuracy. Neighboring rebar correction (NRC) functionality corrects and filters data to enhance first-layer resolution in areas of congested reinforcing steel. The operating software also includes data export and sharing functions. With the sensor mounted in the included wheeled scanning cart, linear scans up to 0.6mi (1km) can be performed across concrete surfaces.

CT-172R Profometer Pro Cover Meterprecisely detects reinforcing steel bars, estimates bar diameters, and measures the depth of concrete cover. The sensor also locates metallic embedments and wires. The user’s iPad displays visualizations, maps, advanced statistics, neighboring rebar corrections for first and second layers, heat maps, area scans, and augmented reality (AR) views. The operating software also includes data export and sharing functions. Using the included wheeled scanning cart, area scans of up to 107,000ft2 (10,000m2) and linear scans up to 0.6mi (1km) can be performed.

CT-170R Profometer Lite Cover Meter is the sensor only. The lightweight and totally wireless Lite model does not require the use of an iPad or additional software for operation. The sensor performs basic rebar location, orientation, and estimations of bar size and cover to the same level of performance as the other Profometer models, but does not offer visualizations, statistics, or cloud-based reporting. Readings and values are shown on the built-in OLED display. The wheeled cart is not included with the Lite model.

Permanent operating software for the Basic or Pro Cover Meters is included and features access to Proceq Workspace. Free support, updates, and new releases are provided for a five-year period after the initial purchase. The software remains fully functional after five years, and support and updates can be continued with the optional purchase of a new five-year subscription.

Apple iPad hardware and operating systems can be replaced or upgraded by the user at any time for improved performance with no need to replace the Profometer sensor. The optional CTA-69 Telescopic Rod with Tablet Holder offers extended and articulated reach for easy scanning of floors, walls, and overhead locations. The CTA-68 Universal Tablet Holder with Chest Strap is also optional and leaves both hands free to position the sensor or collect readings on the iPad.
