The Fine Aggregate Angularity Apparatus measures the uncompacted void content of fine aggregates to determine angularity and sphericity properties that affect the workability of mix designs.
The test begins with the transfer of a homogeneous sample to the hopper while the discharge opening is blocked with the operator’s finger. When the user’s finger is removed, the sample flows into the 100ml copper cylindrical measure. Excess material is struck off with an HMA-11A Spatula, and the cylindrical measure is removed and weighed. The specimen mass and uncompacted void content are calculated.
The bottom of the measure has a recess to fit a locating pin on the Funnel Stand to ensure precision and repeatability. The HMA-11A Flat-Edged Spatula for strike-off and an SGA-93 Stainless Steel Pan to retain sample material are available separately and meet AASHTO T 304 and ASTM C1252 standards. Gilson offers two models for this popular test.
SG-40 Includes a 100ml copper Cylindrical Measure, Funnel with a specified hopper, Funnel Stand, and a Glass Plate for calibration.
SG-40A features a strike-off guide for the exact alignment of the spatula blade to the top of the Cylindrical Measure. This has been experimentally shown to improve the repeatability of test results between operators as well as laboratories. A 100ml copper Cylindrical Measure, specified Funnel, Funnel Stand, and a Glass Plate for calibration are included.
