Gilson's GSB meets ASTM C1019 and UBC 21-18 as an alternative method for making grout prisms that yield comparable compressive strength to the pinwheel method that utilizes Concrete Masonry Units (CMUs). GSBs are economically advantageous, saving time, space, and labor. Field samples cast by a GSB are efficiently molded, protected, and shipped, all in one container.
The cardboard material draws moisture from the group prism, closely simulating CMU absorption rate, but in a much more consistent and repeatable process.
Single-use cardboard boxes ship and store flat, taking only seconds to set up for molding. Each box yields four 3.3125x3.3125x6.5in (84x84x165mm), WxDxH mortar samples. 25 boxes per carton. Optional HMA-349 Grout Sample Box Fixture, available separately, reinforces the sidewalls of the cardboard GSB to maintain square shape, and ventilated steel construction allows excess moisture to escape.
