Soil Hydrometers are used to test the particle size distribution of fine-grained soils in the hydrometer analysis of soils test. The hydrometers measure suspended solids in sedimentation cylinders over time periods of up to 24 hours. There are two types of hydrometers ASTM 151H or ASTM 152H both are buoyant glass tube instruments calibrated to measure the relative density of liquids.
SA-1 ASTM 151H models are graduated to read specific gravity. It has a range of 0.995–1.038 in 0.001 divisions at 68°F (20°C). SA-1 hydrometer comes with a certificate of conformity. SA-1T hydrometer comes with a NIST traceable certificate of calibration.
SA-2 ASTM 152H models measure in grams per liter (g/L) of suspension and have a range of -5 – +60 g/L, in 1g/L divisions at 68°F (20°C). SA-2 hydrometer comes with a certificate of conformity. SA-2T hydrometer comes with a NIST traceable certificate of calibration.
